Betty White Celebrates Her 97th Birthday in LA

Betty White

TV legend Betty White was seen out and about in Los Angeles on the arm of a gentleman in a suit, just one day before her 97th birthday.

The actress and comedienne, who has been working on television pretty much since its invention, has often said that the secret to longevity is to “enjoy life”.

Always a pioneer for women in television, White helped produced her 1950’s sitcom “Life With Elizabeth”, at a time when there weren’t many women behind the scenes. She is still remembered for her role as Rose in the much-beloved series “Golden Girls”, alongside Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty.

Prior to that, she brought to life the smarmy-yet-acidic character Sue Ann Gibbons in the long-running television classic “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”.

White has never let age get in her way, and she continues to work well into her 90’s, last starring as a regular in the sitcom “Hot in Cleveland”.

Her life and work was recently recounted and honored in the PBS Documentary “Betty White: First Lady of Television”.

In the fast-changing world of Hollywood, Betty White’s seven-decade-long career is truly an admirable achievement. Best of all, it seems the 97-year-old actress has not lost her rosy outlook on life.

In an interview with “Parade” magazine last year, White stated, “it sounds so trite, but a lot of people will pick out something to complain about, rather than say: ‘Hey, that was great!’ It’s not hard to find great stuff if you look.”

White has often spoken of her Greek heritage on her maternal side. The actress was born in Oak Park, Illinois to Christine Tess Cachikis and Horace Logan White. She is also of Danish, English and Welsh ancestry.
