Small Plane Crashes in Western Greece

A search-and-rescue operation is underway off Mesolongi in western Greece for a small two-seater plane which is believed to have crashed into the sea after takeoff on Wednesday.
A Greek Coast Guard spokesman told iefimerida.gr that the incident was reported in a phone call from a witness, who said he saw the aircraft losing height rapidly and crashing into the water.
Two Coast Guard vessels, as well as private fishing boats, are combing the area to find the wreckage and rescue any possible survivors.
Some reports suggest that the plane belongs to a private flying club from Mesolongi and it was en route to the nearby city of Patra when it disappeared off the radar at 12:29 PM (13:29 GMT).
