On Friday night, rival teams Olympiacos and Panathinaikos had a showdown in the Greek “Clasico” basketball derby. Olympiacos triumphed over the “Greens”, with a 79-65 win.
Olympiacos closed the first half of the game with a 16 point lead and a score of 41-25. Their game was steady and strong, and they managed to retain their lead.
Throughout the game, Nikola Milutinov scored a phenomenal double-double for the “Reds” resulting in 18 points, 18 rebounds, and 41 on the performance index rating. While Janis Strelnieks also brought in 18 points for the team.
The “Reds” continued to be dominant in the game, as the “Greens” attempted to turn things around in the fourth quarter, but failed.
Nick Calathes brought in 13 points and 7 assists for the defeated “Greens”, while Lukas Lekavicius also brought in 10 points. The two players were the only team members of Panathinaikos to score in double-digits on the squad.
With this win, Olympiacos now has the tie-breaker over their arch-rivals in the league. Rankings-wise, Olympiacos improved to 10-6, whereas Panathinaikos dropped to 7-9.
