Greek politicians condemned Thursday’s bombing outside the Greek Orthodox Church of St. Dionysios in Kolonaki, central Athens, which slightly wounded a policeman and the caretaker of the church.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred early in the morning.
Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ Syriza party condemned what it called an “atrocious act”, and offered its support for the two wounded men.
Tsipras’ main domestic political rival Kyriakos Mitsotakis, head of the New Democracy party, accused the government of tolerating repeated acts of violence and warned that “the feeling of insecurity” had reached a new level.
Socialist Party leader Fofi Gennimata stated that “There is a problem of security in the country, the government must take responsibility.”
The Greek anti-terrorism police have launched an investigation, which is focusing on anarchists or far-left groups.
Ten days ago, a homemade bomb exploded outside the headquarters of the Skai media group in a seaside Athens suburb, causing major damage. There have also been no claims of responsibility in that attack.
