Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos stated on Tuesday that both Greece and Egypt share a common vision to create an axis of stability in the southeast Mediterranean. Kammenos made his remarks as he spoke about the upcoming visit of Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi to Athens.
in an interview with the state-run news service AMNA, Kammenos made a special reference to the important agreements inked recently by two Greek private companies. One of the accords calls for a Greek company to supply the Egyptian army with night vision binoculars while the other has won the bid to provide guards along the Libyan border.
”This leads to a further strengthening of relations in defense cooperation”, Kammenos said.

As for Egypt‘s leading role in the Arab World, the Greek Defense Minister said that ”it is something very important for Greece, which has a common economic zone with Egypt”. He added that “in the future, I believe we can build defense agreements along with energy agreements that will help deepen the two countries’ relations and ensure stability in the region.”
He further stated that “in a collapsing environment, the two countries now take on their historical role together, working closely to build the future of the wider region.”
