Greek Parliament To Vote on Reversing Pension Cuts Next Week

The Hellenic Parliament in Athens

The proposed law which includes an amendment to block the already-legislated cuts to pensions in 2019 will be tabled and voted on in the Greek Parliament by next week. According to state-run news serviceĀ AMNA, the vote is likely to occur on Tuesday, December 11.
The bill is expected to be fast-tracked through Parliament so that it can be both discussed and voted on by the plenum on the same day, December 11.
The EU Commission already approved the 2019 Greek budget, noting that the country will not need to implement any cuts to its pension system. The draconian measures were not needed because the economy is expected to have a primary surplus of 3.5 percent without reducing pensions.
