Greek Foreign Ministry Issues Strong Rebuttal to Erdogan Warning

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs in central Athens

In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, the Greek Foreign Ministry responded to recent provocative statements made by the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The president, referring to recent oil drilling in the region, had sternly warned Greece and Cyprus against ”reckless” actions in the eastern Mediterranean.
The Foreign Ministry statement said that ”Greece, along with its partners and allies, will continue defending international law and the country’s inalienable rights, behaving as a pillar of security and stability in the region.”
It added that the Turkish provocations undermine the stability of the region at a crucial time, and demonstrate Turkey’s lack of a legal argument. The statement concluded by calling on Turkey to act responsibly regarding the issue of energy, something that might spur new opportunities for dialogue and cooperation in the region.
