A London police officer who threw a homeless man out of a Heathrow Airport police station and watched a DVD as he died outside has been fired.
Pericles Malagardis, a 63-year-old man who was sleeping outdoors on Heathrow Airport property, had gone to Uxbridge Police Station to collect his dog.
He was ejected from the police station at forty minutes past midnight GMT on March 5, 2016. Officers found him unresponsive outside the station at 5:30 AM.
Bhupinder Kalsi, a police officer based at the borough of Hillingdon, was dismissed without notice, according to the BBC.
An investigation found Malagardis was asked to leave after he began smoking inside the police station. After remaining “for some time,” he was physically removed from the station when he began to smoke for a second time.
Kalsi then “viewed a DVD whilst on duty, following Mr Malagardis’ ejection from the front office,” the investigation found.
According to The Independent newspaper, Malagardis moved to London in 1989 and worked as a delivery driver for more than a decade before losing his job and becoming homeless after the breakdown of a relationship.
He was described as a “familiar figure” in Terminal 5 at Heathrow airport and wellwishers had been attempting to contact his sons in Greece and to raise money for him to fly back to his home country.
