Two Minor Earthquakes Hit the Ionian Sea on Sunday


Two minor earthquakes in quick succession of one another jolted the Ionian Sea and islands in an area, on Sunday morning.
The first measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck at 7:18 a.m. local time 49 kilometers (30 miles) south-west of the island of Zakynthos and 290 kilometers (180 miles) west of Athens.
The second which followed fifty minutes later was stronger, measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale. Its epicenter was 56 kilometers (35 miles) southwest of Zakynthos and 304 kilometers (189 miles) west of Athens.
There are no reports of damage or injury in the nearby islands of Zakynthos, Kefalonia, Ithaca or Lefkada.
Zakynthos was close to the epicenter of a strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake on October 26.
