'Staramaki': A New Type of Kalamaki From Kilkis

There could be a new food item on the Greek horizon, “Staramaki”! An alternative form of the famous Greek kalamaki, or souvlaki, it could be produced by wheat from the area of Kilkis, in Central Macedonia. Wheat from Greece currently faces many difficulties finding its position in the global market, and working to produce staramaki could become a job creator for both local people and refugees.
The volunteer association Omnes, which operates in the Kilkis area, presented the innovative idea at the ”Select Respect Forum 2018” held recently in the city.  Omnes spokesman Stefanos Kamperis told the state-run AMNA that Onmes came up with this idea as part of their new project called  ”From aid to trade”. They then made this into a well-researched proposal which will create opportunities for the local economy and workforce, since it is well-adapted to the agricultural economy of the region.
