Greek Police Take Draconian Measures for Polytechneio Anniversary

Hellenic Police (ELAS) are taking draconian measures for the 45th Polytechneio uprising anniversary events that will culminate with a rally to the U.S. Embassy on Saturday.
More than 5,000 police officers will be deployed while ELAS helicopters and drones will be monitoring activities in central Athens.
Secret police will be present in the Exarchia area next to the National Technical University of Athens (Polytechneio) administration building where the wreath-laying ceremony will take place on Saturday. Exarchia is the base of anarchists who traditionally attack police and vandalize the area around NTUA every year on November 17.
Police officers are urged to be on the lookout for attacks on police stations, or on any buildings where police are present, as well as on individual police officers, and for people wearing hoods.
Meanwhile, extraordinary traffic regulations will be implemented from Thursday through Saturday night around NTUA.
On Saturday, the day of the rally to the U.S. Embassy, most of the center of Athens will remain closed to traffic. Routes of public transportation will be modified accordingly, and parking is to be avoided in the center of Athens and on streets around the embassy.
