Ecumenical Patriarch Asks for Ieronymos-Tsipras Deal Clarification

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on Friday called on the Consul General of Greece in Constantinople, Georgia Soultanopoulou, asking for an explanation regarding the verbal agreement between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Archbishop of Athens and All of Greece Ieronymos on the separation of Church and State.
Reportedly, there is displeasure in Fanari because Ieronymos never informed the Patriarchate about the discussions with Tsipras and the alleged agreement on the changes in Church-State relations.
For that reason Bartholomew felt he had no alternative but to call on Consul General Soultanopoulou to receive a briefing on the talks between Greece’s State leader and the leader of the Church in Greece.
