Prosecutor Orders Probe Following Kotzias Lawsuit

Supreme Court Prosecutor Xeni Dimitriou has ordered an investigation following a lawsuit filed by former foreign minister Nikos Kotzias for defamation and dissemination of false news against him.
Kotzias resigned last month after a rift with Defense Minister Panos Kammenos over the Prespa agreement on the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) name change. Kammenos opposes the agreement, which Kotzias considers to be a great diplomatic success.
In his lawsuit, Kotzias mentions specific media reports that were aimed at intimidating him to stop the completion of the deal with Skopje. Reports also alleged that millions of euros in Foreign Ministry funds were spent in secret to promote the acceptance of the Prespa agreement by opposition politicians.
Kotzias also denies any ealings with American-Hungarian billionaire investor George Soros, an avid proponent of the FYROM accession to the EU and NATO, for which the name agreement with Greece is a prerequisite.
Furthermore, Kotzias claims that he has received threats against his life, as a result of signing and promoting the Prespa agreement.
