Anastasiades: We will Cooperate with Turkey on Energy if Cyprus Issue Solved

Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades expressed Cyprus’ willingness to cooperate with Turkey on the exploitation of natural gas in the eastern Mediterranean.
Speaking on Friday at the 14th Economist conference, Anastasiades stated that Cyprus and Turkey can collaborate on energy matters provided that the island is reunited.
The Cypriot president said that he is discussing a solution involving a bi-zonal federation.
On his part, Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides noted that Cyprus wants Turkey to participate in natural gas exploitation processes but stressed that “this will not happen if Cyprus remains divided.”
Christodoulides pointed out that Turkey’s continuing threats against Cyprus would not lead to a debate on the island’s sovereign rights.
