Turkey issued a new NAVTEX (Navigational Telex), with which the country blocks the sea area surrounding Greece’s territorial waters in the small island of Kastellorizo, east of Rhodes.
Turkey claims that it is going to perform rescue and search exercises for four hours on October 31.
There is still no official response to the Turkish move from Greece, but according to Kathimerini Daily, the shadow foreign minister from New Democracy party, George Koumoutsakos said that ”the new Turkish NAVTEX is unacceptable; Turkey’s persistently infringing behavior maintains and feeds the tension in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean.” He added that ”Turkey tests the stability and peace in our sensitive area. This irresponsible attitude must be opposed not only by Greece and the affected states but by the entire international community”.
