Greek Evzones Honored in Warsaw Photo Exhibition

Greece’s Evzone  Presidential Guard soldiers are being honored in a photography exhibit currently on display in the Polish capital of Warsaw, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the formation of the Guard.

North Events and “Hermes”, the Association of Greek Entrepreneurs of Poland, are the organizers of the show, which features the work of photographer Dimitra Hatziadam. Titled “Evzones / Guardians of the Unseen”, the exhibition is being shown at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw.

The exhibition marks one hundred years of diplomatic relations between Greece and Poland, as well as a celebration of 150 years since the establishment of the Greek Presidential Guard. The project was organized under the auspices of the Greek Embassy in Poland.

In her photography, Hatziadam captures the unique uniform of the Evzones, resplendent with many symbols from Greek folk tradition. She also attempts to capture the Greek Orthodox character of the members of the Presidential Guard, their difficult training, and the ideals they represent. The Evzones appear as pillars of military virtue and morality.

The exhibit is complemented by testimonies from Evzone soldiers as well as an audio documentary.
