Russian FM: U.S. Behind 'Unfair Vote' in Skopje

The Russian Foreign Ministry, commenting on the parliamentary vote that took place in Skopje on Friday, blamed the United States for the “unfair vote” which began the process of changing the constitutional name of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) to “North Macedonia,” in accordance with the Prespa agreement.
In a statement, the Ministry declared its view that “what happened was an open violation of all norms, both from a legal and moral point of view. Such dirty manipulations cannot be regarded as an expression of parliamentarians’ will.”
FYROM’s main opposition party, the VMRO-DPMNE, departed parliament on the day of the vote. However, 8 members of the party remained and voted in favor of the constitutional proposals put forth by the country’s prime minister, Zoran Zaev. This has led to claims by Russia that the vote was conducted “through threats, blackmail, and bribing the members of the opposition.”
