25th Greek Film Festival Kicks off in Sydney with Wartime Drama (video)

More than 700 people attended the opening night of the 25th Greek Film Festival in Sydney on Tuesday night, with wartime drama “The Last Note”.

The Delphi Bank 25th Greek Film Festival (GFF) will showcase a total 16 films, including new releases and old favorites, which will screen October 9 to 21 in Sydney, and October 10 to 21 in Melbourne.

The opening night was a cinematic treat from award-winning Greek filmmaker Pantelis Voulgaris. “The Last Note” is the heartwrenching story of the events that led to the execution of 200 Greeks in Chaidari in retaliation for the killing of four Nazi officers.

Co-written by Voulgaris’ wife, the acclaimed novelist Ioanna Karystiani, the film was a great success in Greece.

Among the movies to be shown during the festival are the new films “Pity” and “Smuggling Hendirix”, while premiering this autumn in Greece are the modern comedies “First Time Godfather” and “I Love Karditsa”, as well as last year’s “Polyxeni”, “Success Story”, and “Jamaica”.
