Strike to Close Acropolis and Other Major Greek Sites on October 11

Greece’s union that represents staff working in the sectors of public-run museums and archaeological sites has called for a 24-hour strike on October 11.
The strike would cause disruptions for those who are hoping to see the country’s ruins, as Greece’s popular archaeological sites, including Athens’ Acropolis, might close to visitors on this day.
The union is placing blame on the Greek government for the transfer of many of the current publicly-owned archaeological sites to the privatization’s fund that was established in 2015 under the provisions of Greece’s third bailout program.
However, Greece’s Ministry of Culture disagrees, saying that no historical site of great significance is going to be privatized.
