Butchers' Challenge: Greek Team Makes the Best Burger in the World

Greece’s team in World Butchers’ Challenge 2018

At the World Butchers’ Challenge 2018 held in Belfast earlier this year, a group of young Greek butchers decided to show off their skills, taking part in the competition.
Despite this being their first appearance in the acclaimed competition, they managed to win first place for the best burger in the world!
Kyparissia Antonara, the 29-year-old owner of a butcher shop in Asvestochori village near Thessaloniki, was the only woman of the team and she won the first place by making the best burger of the competition.

In an interview with AMNA, Antonara said that “the simplicity of our recipe along with the use of pure ingredients and herbs taken from Crete, were appreciated by the judges.”
Many countries participated in the competition, among which was the USA with its long tradition in burgers, but, according to Antonara, “they didn’t manage to win a single prize.”
Antonara was originally a fashion designer but she realized that her passion was the creation of tasty and beautiful dishes with meat. This led her to decide to return to her village and work for her family’s business.
The Greek team that participated in the competition had 6 members: 3 Cretans, 2 Athenians, and Antonara from Thessaloniki.
This was the first time that Greece participated in the competition.
