Beijing‘s Palace Museum, also known as the Forbidden City, is currently showing an exhibit of 350 Ancient Greek artifacts. The exhibit will be open until December 16.
The nearly-priceless antiquities were found nearly 2,000 years after they were buried at the bottom of the Aegean Sea following the sinking of a vessel.
Included in the display is the shipwreck itself and sculptures that were found in the shipwreck site, as well as articles of daily use such as bottles, glassware, and pieces of a sofa. Objects demonstrating the navigation and shipbuilding technology of the era are also included.
Shan Jixiang, director of the Palace Museum said during the opening of the exhibition: ”With valuable historical information, the delicate cargo from the ship is a physical testimony to ancient Greek civilization, and can help visitors interpret many historical facts”.
