Acclaimed Greek Director Yorgos Lanthimos Returns to Venice International Film Festival

Academy Award nominee Yorgos Lanthimos returns to the 75th Venice International Film Festival after winning the prize for Best Script together with Efthymis Filippou in 2011 for the film “Alps”.
The acclaimed Greek director was nominated for Best Original Screenplay in the 2017 Academy Awards for “The Lobster”.
In the Venice Film Festival that kicks off today (Wednesday) and runs through September 8, Lanthimos will present his new film “The Favourite”, and compete for the Golden Lion.
“The Favorite” is a satirical period drama that takes place in 18th century England where the war of succession to the throne is raging. It tells the story of three women: Queen Anne, Duchess Sarah Churchill and Baroness Abigail Masham.
The three main characters are interpreted by Olivia Colman, Emma Stone and Rachel Weiss while the original script is written by Deborah Davis and Tony McNamara.
The film is scheduled to be released in U.S. theaters on November 23 by Fox Searchlight, and it will premiere at the 56th New York Film Festival on September 28.
