Tensions Between Greece and Turkey Escalate, Turkish FM Blames Greece

On Tuesday, tensions between Greece and Turkey continued to rise and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu put the blame for this on Greece.
“In their difficult days, we are always at their side. But in the Aegean and the Mediterranean, they are again increasing tension. They do bizarre things which are not acceptable. Don’t we all want the Eastern Mediterranean to become a region of peace and prosperity?” Cavusoglu said at the 10th annual Ambassadors’ Conference in Ankara.
Cavusoglu’s accusations come as reports of Turkish vessels are accused of harassing Greek fishermen in the region, as well as the two countries clashing over the detention of two Greek soldiers in Turkey.
The Turkish Foreign Minister went on to blame Nicosia for the impasse in the Cyprus Talks, claiming that a new process must be implemented to resolve the issue.
“In order to reach a solution in Cyprus, a new process must be launched. Greek Cypriots do not want to cooperate. And this we saw last year. We saw it in Geneva, we saw it in Crans-Montana,” Cavusoglu said, adding, “Greece is no different.”
