Football Draws Throw Up Mixed Results for Greek Sides' European Campaigns

Greek clubs faced mixed fortunes in the UEFA Champions League draw for the group stage play-off qualifiers on Monday.
If AEK manages to pass Scottish champions Celtic then the Athens club will face the winner of the Malmo FF (Sweden) – MOL Vidi FC (Hungary) match. Both clubs have very little experience in Europe’s top flight competition, leaving AEK looking like the favorite.
PAOK Thessaloniki was not so lucky in the draw as they will have to play the winner of a Fenerbahce (Turkey) – Benfica (Portugal) match, both powerful clubs.
Of course, PAOK will have to overcome Spartak Moscow first before they play against the Turkish or Portuguese team.
Olympiacos FC were as unlucky in the draw as PAOK, but in the Europa League tournament. The Piraeus club faces Switzerland’s Luzern FC on Thursday in the first of two qualifying games.
If Olympiacos advance to the next stage, they will face the winner of the Burnley (England) – Basaksehir (Turkey) match, both hard competitors for the play-offs of the Europa League group stage.
