PAOK Thrashes Basel 3-0 and Advances to Champions League Play-offs (video)

It was a magic night for PAOK on Wednesday in Switzerland as the Thessaloniki team easily thrashed Basel 3-0, advancing to the final stage of the Champions League qualification games.

The Greek Cup winners advanced on a 5-1 aggregate score, as they beat the Swiss team  2-1 in Thessaloniki last week. In the next and final stage of the Champions League qualifications PAOK will face Spartak Moscow.

The Thessaloniki team dominated for 90 minutes at St Jacob’s Park, leaving no chances to Basel to claim anything more than a second defeat.
It was part luck and part the quality of PAOK players that put the Thessaloniki team ahead only seven minutes into the game. Dimitris Pelkas took a corner kick and Fernando Varela scored an easy goal.

On the seventh minute of the second half, Aleksandar Prijovic took a long ball from goalkeeper Alexandros Paschalakis and scored passing the ball over the head of the Basel keeper.

On the 60th minute of the game, Omar El Kaddouri turned the PAOK victory into a triumph with a shot outside the box and sealed the Thessaloniki team’s superiority.

Now PAOK expects the two games with Spartak to see if they can make it to the Champions League group stage for the first time in their history.
