Mena Suvari is taking on home decor giant Bed Bath & Beyond, as well as the down industry in general, in a new campaign for PETA.
The vegan “American Woman” actress is a well-known advocate for animal rights. In her new campaign, she reveals the truth about the down industry (which uses feathers from geese and ducks) and how horrified she was by it.
Recalling the moment of her realization, Suvari says, “I just remember sitting in my home, and I was watching one of the videos showing these geese who were having their feathers ripped out while they were still alive, and they were screaming. It was really, really horrifying.”
Not content with simply appearing in the charity’s campaign, Suvari sent a letter to Bed Bath & Beyond CEO Steven H. Temares, and will also be present at the company’s next annual meeting to question its shareholders.
What does Suvari ultimately want? According to the video, “what I would love for people to take away from this campaign is just to start thinking, and continue that process because as I’ve learned there are so many other options, there are so many alternatives.”
