To mark World Refugee Day on Wednesday, local restaurants in Athens have opened their kitchens to refugee chefs to create a unique culinary experience.
Through set menus or carte blanche, these guest chefs will prepare their best culinary creations from their home countries.
All chefs, four women and two men, will cook one or several times in the same restaurant and add their own touch to the menu by introducing new dishes and flavors. They will suggest their own menus or prepare dishes along with the restaurant’s main chef.
The Refugee Food Festival is an annual event, aiming to change views on refugees’ status, foster integration through food and mobilize civil society by getting citizens together around the dinner table.
It takes place in 13 other cities around the world: Paris, Lille, Marseille, Bordeaux, Strasbourg, Lyon, Brussels, Madrid, Amsterdam, Bologna, San Francisco, New York and Cape Town.
It is organized by Food Sweet Food and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, as well as by citizens of each participating country who have devoted their time in bringing it to their city.
