Academy Elects Jim Gianopulos and Sid Ganis to Board of Governors

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences elected its 2018-2019 Board of Governors, which will include Jim Gianopulos and Sid Ganis.

Jim Gianopulos, the CEO of Paramount Studios, is an incumbent governor for the Executives Branch. Sid Ganis returns after a long hiatus to head the Public Relations Branch.

Ganis, a producer of Greek-Jewish descent born in Brooklyn, is behind such movies as “Big Daddy”, “Akeelah and the Bee”, and the television series “Pan Am”.

The 17 separate branches of the academy are each represented by three governors. The purpose of the Board of Governors is to set a vision for the Academy of over 8,000 international members, look after the organization’s financial health, and ensure that the Academy fulfills all aspects of its mission.

All the Governors of the new Board will start their tenures and assume their duties as of July 1.

Others elected to the Board of Governors for the first time include Alfred Molina for the Actors Branch, Tom Duffield for the Designers Branch, Susanne Bier for the Directors Branch, and Bonnie Arnold for the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch.
