Elite units from three Balkan countries have conducted a joint military exercise with Greek special forces near Athens.
Units from Serbia, Bulgaria and Romania joined their Greek counterparts in the exercise Salamis Storm 2018, in what is being seen as a symbolic show of force.
Greece’s Defense Minister Panos Kammenos said the exercise sent “a message of cooperation and peace and establishes a strong axis of stability in the Balkan region”.
Observers from Cyprus, Egypt, Estonia, the U.S., Jordan, Israel and Poland have also been invited, the Greek National Defence General Staff said in an official announcement.
The purpose of the exercise is to “promote the level of military co-operation and interoperability of participating units”.
