Greece's Tsipras Meets FYROM Leader on Naming Dispute

Greek PM Alexis Tsipras (L) with FYROM premier Zoran Zaev in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Greece’s Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras met with his FYROM counterpart Zoran Zaev in Sofia on Thursday on the sidelines of an EU summit on the western Balkans to discuss ongoing talks between the two countries to settle the decades-old name dispute.
The meeting comes a day after Zaev said his country has “no alternative” but to become a member of NATO and the European Union.
“Macedonia has no alternative to NATO and the EU,” Zaev said, claiming that if FYROM fails to join, the consequences will be negative for the wider Balkan region.
Tsipras also met German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
