Athenians and tourists gave a warm welcome to Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall as they strolled the streets of the Greek capital on the second day of their official visit.

The royal couple enjoyed the sunny and warm weather with a cup of coffee outdoors at a cafe in Ermou street as they chatted to locals.

The couple also bought a traditional Koulouri, Greece’s famous sesame-seed bread ring.

They also visited the Church of Panagia Kapnikarea, one of the oldest churches in Athens that was built some time in the 11th century, perhaps around 1050.

Earlier on Thursday Prince Charles met the head of Greece’s Orthodox Church Archbishop Ieronymos.
Charles recalled that he has visited Mount Athos and its monasteries several times. “And having done this, I have gained a special appreciation for the traditions of the Orthodox Church.”
He also spoke in appreciation of the Orthodox Church’s charitable work to “help the people in Greece who are in need at this time.”
