Greece Deports Turkish Man who Crossed Evros Border

Greek authorities on Saturday deported a Turkish man who had entered the country through the Evros border on Wednesday, Hellenic Police say.
Local police in Kastanies returned the Turkish civilian to his country through the Kastanies border crossing. The 37-year-old man had crossed to Greece on Wednesday and was arrested that day. He was driving an excavator on the Greek side of the border.
The man said he was digging for a well at a Turkish customs post and after work he accidentally turned towards Greece instead of Turkey.
An Orestiada court had given the man a five-month suspended sentence on Thursday for illegally entering Greece. He was also fined €1,500 ($1,797).
The deportation procedures finished early Saturday morning and Greek police escorted the man to the Kastanies border crossing and sent him back.
