Greek Media Mogul Giorgos Kouris Dies at 81


Influential Greek publisher Giorgos Kouris died Monday morning at the age of 81 after a long battle with cancer, his family announced.
Kouris was born in Argostoli, Kefalonia in 1937 and began publishing in the local newspaper Kefalonia’s Voice which he published together with his brother, Makis.
He later created the Kouris Media Group which published a number of daily newspapers and owned radio and television stations.
He founded Channel 29 which eventually was renamed Star Channel, Channel 5 that developed into Alter Channel and Extra Channel.
In 2012 he created Kontra Channel and Kontranews.gr.
His funeral will take place in Kefalonia.
