UCLA Gymnastics with Greek American Coach Valorie Kondos Win NCAA Championship

The UCLA Women’s Gymnastics team on Saturday won the 2018 NCAA Gymnastics Title, the seventh NCAA Championship in program history, with Head Coach Valorie Kondos Field at the helm.

Trailing defending champion Oklahoma by .175 heading into the final rotation of the night, UCLA turned in a spectacular performance the NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships.

The Bruins scored an NCAA record 49.75 on balance beam to earn the 2018 NCAA title at Chaifetz Arena in St. Louis.

The win marks the seventh NCAA gymnastics championship for UCLA, as the Bruins ended  with an overall score of 198.075.

The Greek American Coach Valorie Kondos Field

Valorie Kondos Field has been head coach of the Bruins since 1991 and has led her teams to seven NCAA team championships. She has been voted the national and conference coach of the year four times, and in 2010, she became just the second active coach ever to be inducted into the UCLA Athletics Hall of Fame.

Born in Austin, Texas, Valorie Kondos Field was trained as a professional ballet dancer and has performed with ballet companies such as Sacramento ballet, Capital City Ballet and Washington, D.C. Ballet.

In her website called Official Miss Val, Kondos Field speaks about her Greek heritage and her wonderful upbringing in a loving, artistic family.
