Greek Ferry Strike Rumbles on Until Friday

Greece will be left with operating ferries until Friday as a maritime union extends Wednesday’s strike action for another 24 hours.
The decision was announced by the Greek seamen’s union federation PNO which said its members would continue their protest through Thursday. It is also possible the industrial action could be extended beyond that.
Ferries in Greece were left tied up from 6 a.m. local time on Wednesday, interrupting transport links to the Greek islands just as the tourist season gathers pace.
A shipping ministry decision to allow cargo vessels to sail with a minimal crew prompted the action, which labor activists say could cost jobs across the industry.
Another 24-hour PNO strike in January affected travelers making ferry journeys in Greece. The union called the industrial action over what it called “cuts and regulations of the third memorandum as a result of the bailout requirements”.
