The Turkish navy minesweeper “Anamur” sailed through the Corinth canal on Sunday.
Although this is not the first time that a Turkish ship used the canal, local site Korinthostv.gr reports that Anamur crossed without having raised the NATO flag.
The vessel came from the Aegean side of the canal in a westward direction.
The canal connects the Gulf of Corinth with the Saronic Gulf in the Aegean Sea. It cuts through the narrow Isthmus of Corinth and separates the Peloponnese from the Greek mainland.
It is 6.4 kilometres (4 miles) in length and only 21.4 metres (70 ft) wide at its base, making it impassable for most modern ships.
In February it shut down for about 15 days after heavy rainfall caused a mass landslide.
