Summer Has Come Early as Wildfires Rage Across Greece

Firefighters have been battling wildfires raging on many fronts throughout Greece since Saturday.
It is the first outbreak of fires for the season, aided by strong winds and unseasonably high temperatures.
The most serious front, according to the fire service is at Avlona, some 30 miles north of Athens.
55 firefighters with 24 vehicles were battling the flames throughout Saturday night.
The fire has broken out in an inaccessible area, with dense vegetation and the winds make the situation even more difficult.
A spokesperson for the fire service said that if their efforts fail, fire-fighting helicopters and planes may be called upon to assist.
In Peloponnese, wildfires have been burning near the villages of Agnanta in Ilia and Stylia in Corinthia.
Firefighters are also battling a fire at Kissamos in Crete.
