Head of Thessaloniki Prosecutor’s Office Lambros Tsogas ordered a preliminary investigation on PAOK Owner Ivan Savvidis and his unlawful acts during the PAOK-AEK football game on Sunday.
The head prosecutor sent a written order to Sports Public Prosecutor Evangelia Liasou to investigate a number of issues such as violations of the Sport Law and other offenses that may have occured during Sunday’s incident. The events at the end of the PAOK-AEK match have led Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to order the suspension of Greek top league football indefinitely.
According to the order, the prosecutor asked for an investigation of Savvidis and PAOK Sports Director Lubos Michel who allegedly threatened the referee of the game and members of the visiting team. The prosecutor is asking whether the threats affected the referee’s decision and the rival team.
Also, the prosecution is asking whether the PAOK owner has a license to carry a firearm. According to reports, Savvidis had applied for a gun permit in August 2017 which was rejected because he has personal security staff, but the decision was not binding.
The prosecutor also asked for the police to be investigated, as Sports Public Prosecutor Evangelia Liasou who was present at the game had given the chief of police specific instructions to arrest immediately anyone who did something against the rules before, during or after the game.
The public prosecution is also to investigate the referee game report, the reports of the observers of the referees, as well as testimonies of AEK players and club officials.
