The mayor of Athens has welcomed a four-month suspended jail sentence for a far-right lawmaker convicted of trying to assault him.
Georgios Kaminis tweeted: “Neo-Nazis and fascism before justice. This is the road.”
A lawmaker for the far-right Golden Dawn party, Giorgos Germenis, was convicted for trying to attack the mayor during an food-distribution event in 2013. He was eventually restrained by security during a scuffle, but a 12-year-old girl was struck in the melee.
