Defense Minister Calls for Release of Greek 'Hostages' in Turkey

Greece’s defense minister has described the two junior army officers being held in Turkish custody as “hostages”.
Panos Kammenos, speaking during a visit to Bucharest on Friday, said: “I ask for the Romanian defence minister’s support for the immediate release of those European, NATO and Greek servicemen.”
“We are working for peace based on a request of all the countries of the region to show respect for international law, the [NATO] Alliance and whatever was signed and agreed,” Kammenos added, in comments reported by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.
Lieutenant Aggelos Mitretodis and Sergeant Dimitrios Kouklatzis are being held at a prison in the town of Edirne (Andrianoupolis) after erroneously crossing the Turkish border in bad weather.
