Images have surfaced purporting to show two handcuffed Greek soldiers being taken into custody by Turkish gendarmes after accidentally straying across the border.
The images carried on Turkish-language news site Birlik show two officers, with their faces concealed, being escorted by gendarmes at a detention center in Edirne (Andrianoupolis).
Greece’s Ministry of Defense says the two soldiers lost their way due to bad weather in a  wooded area of Kastanies and crossed into Turkish territory where were intercepted and arrested.

Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reports that the two men were remanded in custody by a Turkish judge. It also claims the pair face espionage charges.
Turkish authorities gave the names of the two soldiers. They are Lieutenant Angelos Mitretodis and Sergeant Dimitrios Kouklatzis of the Mountain Motor Brigade “Rimini”.
Greek government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos told a press briefing on Friday that Athens expects the trial to be conducted quickly and the two soldiers returned to Greece soon.
He revealed that Greek defense chief, Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis, had been in touch with his Turkish counterpart, Hulusi Akar, about the incident.
