Turkey's Internal Problems to Blame for Provocations: Minister

Alternate Defense Minister Dimitris Vitsas

A Greek minister on Friday accused Turkey of trying to solve internal problems through international provocations.
Alternate National Defence Minister Dimitris Vitsas told Athens-Macedonian News Agency (AMNA)’s radio station Praktoreio 104.9 FM:
“Turkey is trying to solve its internal and external problems through provocations, aggression and a revisionist view of international treaties, which will not pass as it will have to deal with the entire international community.”
Vitsas added: “My view is that (the provocation) is due to external and internal problems that Turkey has, not in relation to Greece.
“Turkey is facing a lot of issues, mainly the Kurdish and Syrian issues, and wants to participate in or push for something that does not belong to it, namely the Cypriot EEZ.”
“Cyprus is a state and that is how it is seen by the international community,” he underlined.
Asked about Europe’s subdued reaction to the issue, he said: “For different reasons and based on the fact that great financial interests dominate our times, provocations are addressed in a mild way.
“This is the reason why the Greek prime minister will raise the issue again on Friday to the council of European leaders. What we need is a clear position.”
