Greek premier Alexis Tsipras sent a message of defiance to Turkey on Thursday following an incident at Imia on Monday night.
“Greece is not going to allow any challenge of its territorial integrity and its sovereign rights,” Tsipras said and warned that “Greece is not playing games”.
His comments followed a visit to the Ministry for Shipping where he met the captain and crew of a vessel that was rammed by a Turkish patrol boat.
“You kept calm and keeping calm is bravery,” he told the captain of the Offshore Patrol Boat (OPV) Gavdos.
Tsipras said that Greece is a “pillar of stability and security in unstable region”.
Greece requires all countries in the region to show “absolute respect for international law and the principles of good neighborliness, peaceful coexistence and regional co-operation,” Tsipras added.
