Meet the Greeks Fighting for Gold at the 2018 Winter Olympics

Greek Olympians lead the way at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Winter Games in South Korea

Greek athletes were in the spotlight on Friday as they took their traditional place in leading thousands of international competitors into a huge Olympic opening ceremony in PyeongChang, South Korea.

The squad will represent Greece — birthplace of the Olympics — at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Fielding just four athletes in two competitions, the Greek team consists of Alpine skiing giant slalom competitors 23-year-old Ioannis Antoniou from Lamia, and Sophia Ralli who skies for EOS Naousas in northern Greece.
They were joined by cross-country skiers 24-year-old Apostolos Angelis from the EOS Metsovou club and Maria Danou who won bronze in the overall ranking of the FIS Balkan Cup series 2017 and finished first in Greece’s Ladies’ SP 1.2-kilometer final in March last year.
The torch lighting ceremony for the 2018 Winter Olympic flame was held in Greece in October.
