Former Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis has announced his intention to create a new political party.
In a tweet on Thursday marking the third anniversary of SYRIZA in power, Varoufakis said that that “three years ago today the Greeks decided to rage against the dying of the light. They were betrayed. But never defeated.”
He went on to announce that in two months (26/3) a new DiEM25 affiliated Greek party will come into being.
“There is no such thing as a final defeat, just as there is no final victory!” he proclaimed.

The Democracy in Europe Movement 2025 (DiEM25) launched by Varoufakis in 2015 is a Pan-European political movement aiming to reform the EU.
Varoufakis has been a continuous thorn in the side of Greek Premier Alexis Tsipras since he resigned from the SYRIZA-led government following the controversial Greek referendum on the bailout in July 2015.
He has claimed in books and articles that Tsipras betrayed the anti-austerity struggle and capitulated to Greece’s creditors.
