A high-profile meeting between Greek premier Alexis Tsipras and IMF head Christine Lagarde has ended in Davos, Switzerland.
Lagarde tweeted shortly after Thursday’s meeting: “We agreed to work together toward the shared goals of completing reforms and securing debt relief from Greece’s European partners, which are essential for sustainable growth.”
She also “congratulated” Tsipras on “progress in Greece’s economic reforms.”
Tsipras is to meet European Commissioner for Economic Affairs Pierre Moscovici later on Thursday.
Many Greeks remain opposed to a series of painful economic reforms which have seen benefits cuts, taxes hiked and a wide-ranging program of privatization.
