New Poll: New Democracy Leads, Greeks Reject "Macedonia" in FYROM Name

Conservative New Democracy main opposition party retains a double-digit lead over governing SYRIZA, while a vast majority of Greeks rejects the use of the term “Macedonia” in any new FYROM name, says a new poll by Metron Analysis published in “Ta Nea” news daily.
A 10.5% lead of New Democracy (35.4%) over SYRIZA (24.9%) is one of the political findings of the Metron Analysis poll. Another interesting point is the rising popularity of the new centre-left “Kinima Allagis (“Movement of Change”) party which was born by the union of PASOK and To Potami parties and gathers 9.8% in the poll.
More specifically, according to the poll New Democracy gets 35.4%, SYRIZA follows with 24.9%, Kinima Allagis gets 9.8%, followed by The Communist Party (6.9%), Golden Dawn (6.6%), Centrists Union (3.2%) and junior government party Independent Greeks (2.7%), which scores below the parliament entry threshold of 3%.
The second part of the Metron Analysis poll is about the name dispute between Greece and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), negotiations over which are in full progress with a resolution expected within the year.
According to the poll findings, a vast majority of Greeks (77% to 81%) rejects all potential FYROM names containing the term “Macedonia” which have been leaked by the FYROM press, while a 61% of those questioned want a referendum on the name issue to be called by the government as soon as a resolution is proclaimed.
Nevertheless, half of those polled believe there is common ground for a mutually accepted resolution on the FYROM name dispute by the two countries, with a 44% believing that such a resolution is not possible at this point.
