Athenians Cycle to Work as Strike Brings Traffic Chaos (photos)

Athenians were without public transport on Monday as Greek labor unions went on strike to protest further creditor-demanded measures due to be voted on in Parliament.
Monday’s strike caused havoc in Athens, with the shutdown of public transport leading to huge traffic jams.

Many Athenians took the day off and some went to work riding their bikes.
A parliamentary vote on the controversial reforms which include curbs on industrial action is expected late on Monday.
Main trade union GSEE has called for a rally in central Athens on Monday evening against the proposed changes to a 36-year-old industrial action law demanded by the country’s creditors.
It said the bill “deals a killing blow to workers, pensioners and the unemployed … effectively eliminating even constitutionally safeguarded rights such as the right to strike”.
