Nicosia Hails 'Historic' Visit by Cyprus President to Saudi Arabia

Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades praised the productive meeting he had with the King of Saudi Arabia, Salman bin Abdulaziz al Saud, on Wednesday in Riyadh.
Anastasiades met with King Salman in the first official visit by a Cypriot President in Riyadh.
“The meeting was extremely productive and creative, always, to the benefit of the interests of the Cypriot people and our Saudi friends,” he said, speaking to the staff of the Joannou and Paraskevaides, a Cypriot company operating in Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, Government Spokesman Nikos Christodoulides said the visit to Saudi Arabia is historic and fulfills a foreign policy aim for the strengthening of relations with Gulf countries.
Speaking to reporters in Riyad, Christodoulides noted that this is the first visit of a Cypriot President to Saudi Arabia since the establishment of the Republic in 1960.
“The visit fulfills an aim of our foreign policy and, after the opening of a diplomatic mission in Riyadh, and the accreditation of a Saudi Arabian Ambassador in Cyprus, our relations are now on a new level and have to do with one of the main pylons of our foreign policy, which is to strengthen our relations with the Gulf countries,” he said.
