Almost nine in ten Greeks (87%) believe that the government and the regional authority are responsible for the deadly floods in Attica, while at the same time they give New Democracy a 8% lead over Syriza on intention to vote.
According to the survey of Metron Analysis on behalf of Ta Nea newspaper, the conservative party would be likely to form government if elections were held today.
The main opposition party received 35.6% in estimated vote preference, compared to 24.1% of Syriza, while in the voter’s intention ND leads Syriza with a difference of 8 percentage points.
In the wake of the elections for the center-left party, the Democratic Coalition party more than doubled its potential eletoral impact compared to the 2015 ballot, while Fofi Gennimata is the most popular as leader of the center-left political forces.
The Democratic Coalition (PASOK-DEMAR) came third in estimated vote preference with 12.5%. Golden Dawn (7.4%), KKE (6%), Centrists Union (3.1%), ANEL (2.6%), Plefsi Eleftherias (2.3%) and To Potami (1.5%) followed.
In voting intention, New Democracy leads by 8 percentage points, with 24.9% against 16.9% of SYRIZA. Democratic Coalition came third (8,8%), with Golden Dawn (5,2%), KKE (4,2%), Centrists Union (2,2%), ANEL (1,9%), Plefsi Eleftherias (1.6%) and To Potami (1%) following, while 12.8% of participants said they would not vote.
ND chief Kyriakos Mitsotakis (23%) is the most suitable for prime minister against Alexis Tsipras (16%), but 43% answered “no one” to this question.
In other questions, 87% of participants believe that the government and the regional authority have political responsibilities for the floods in Western Attica that caused 21 deaths and 80% believe that state mechanisms were unprepared to deal with the situation.
Also, 72% believe the country is moving in the wrong direction, 61% believe the government will complete its four-year term, and 59% are in favor of a co-operation government.
Finally, 49% believe that the economic situation will worsen in the coming months.
